NORAH JONES RECORDING SESSIONS HISTORY: May 2005

Notes: After a year and a half of almost non-stop touring, Norah and Lee were able to take a well-deserved break in May of 2005—and apparently for them, a break meant getting back in the studio. While Norah made surprise appearances at the Living Room and with EL MADMO, records indicate that Norah and Lee also started demoing the songs that had been written while they had been on the road.
This particular compilation features the first known recording of Lee’s “Roll On,” which would go on to be released nearly a year later as a Little Willies song. Two other unreleased songs written by Lee, “Underground” and “Wash Me Away” are also included on this recording, as well as “All The Same to Her,” an unreleased song co-written by Lee and Norah. It is possible that “Rosie’s Lullaby,” “Until The End,” “Be My Somebody,” “The Sun Doesn’t Like You,” and two other tracks that Norah stated were written on the road were also demoed here [1].
It is unclear as to who participated in this session beyond Norah and Lee. Presumably Adam, Daru and Andy would have also participated but the inclusion of a future Little Willies song creates the possibility that Richard Julian, Jim Campilongo and Dan Rieser may have been the other players instead. Also, if this recording was a proper studio session we are certain that the location would have been Magic Shop Studios, which had become the location of choice for almost all of Norah’s well known collaborators from 2003 onward, including Jesse Harris, Amos Lee, Julian, Campilongo, and even Norah herself with the Willies. However, it is unclear whether this home recording or studio recording.
