Notes:

* Norah described this two-year gig later on to Pamela Colloff:
I played there for two years, two nights a week.  Thats how I made my rent.  Usually people didnt listen to the music because they were too busy eating their dinner.  But some nights they would listen.  And Id think, What can I play next to keep them clapping?’”
* Norah described the venue as being a
nice Italian place, not a family-style restaurant but a big, high-end corporate restaurant.
* Norah described the gigs, which she called her best must job
pre-stardom, as being three hours of solo piano, and they encouraged me to sing. I was trying to learn how to sign and play piano at the same time, which is like chewing gum and patting your head. I was terrible at practicing and that was the best practice I had. It paid great, $100 a night, plus free food and tips, which was a lot for me. My rent in Denton at the time was $300 a month, so I made my rent just from doing that gig.
