Guyora Kats, who played synthesizer on the tracks, reports that the hook to the song was something he came up with, and the members of the rhythm section in this song were the other members of his band at the time. He also confirms that Norah laid down her vocals on a separate day (7).
There are numerous songs that could have also been recorded at this session. “Tell Me,” released in 2003 on Nublu Sessions, was a song Norah had been performing with the band around this time. “Ghost,” a song that was originally supposed to be on Nublu Sessions in place of “Tell Me,” could have also been recorded here—although we are not sure if this song had been written in 2000 (6). Norah also wrote “Thinking About You” shortly after joining Wax Poetic and could have also recorded that at this session. Finally, she also performed “Technologie” and “Purple Elephants” on BET’s Jazz Central Program in May of 2000—two cuts from the album that were sung by Lisa Rudolph in their album versions. Could it have been possible that the band originally recorded these two cuts with Norah but liked Lisa Rudolph’s versions better?
Special thanks to Guyora Kats for his assistance with this writeup.
